In May 2023, a former concrete block was transformed into the first school garden bed. More raised beds were added in the fall of 2024, and the school garden was officially opened in May 2025. The garden club now has 25 members.
The garden club promotes ecological awareness and networked thinking as well as knowledge of zoology, geology and botany. Through practical work in the school garden, pupils experience natural cycles at first hand and deepen their scientific understanding.
The school garden also serves as a field of research: three pupils have already dedicated their final project to the creation of the garden or the possibilities of regenerative cultivation as part of their school leaving examination.
The beds are maintained sustainably by the garden club as well as in biology lessons and in the elective subject “Biological Exercises”. Sowing, tending, building and harvesting are part of the garden’s annual rhythm. The yields are processed into tea, syrup, pesto, ointments or cough syrup – an example of sustainability in everyday school life.
